How To Raise: The Two Part Gift Conversation and the Practice of Intentional Inquiry.

When they decide to ask for a gift commitment, many fundraisers tend to ask for an amount, with next to no thought given to where that amount might come from. By default they ask for cash, and they leave a lot on the table. This is a self-limiting ask, and there’s an alternative. During today’s conversation with Dan Shephard we’ll examine the gift conversation from the donor’s side of the table, and how the fundraiser can expand solicitations from “how much” to a more inclusive “how.”

Learning Objectives
· Learn the agenda for the donor relationship from the other side of the table – what they ask themselves before saying ‘YES’
· Learn how to apply this agenda to each member of your fundraising team – the Executive Director or Dean, a fundraising volunteer, your gift planning specialist
· Examine the distinction between ‘planned giving’ and ‘gift planning’ and why the latter is what you should practice with donors
